Male prostatitis can be bacterial or nonbacterial. The cause of the first are various pathogens: staphylococci, streptococci, gonococci, etc. Nonbacterial prostatitis occurs due to the influence of factors that create blood stagnation in the pelvic area.
When the first signs of prostate inflammation appear, a urologist should be consulted immediately. Only an expert can determine the presence and type of prostatitis and prescribe its therapy with certain drugs.
Medical treatment of prostatitis in men is considered to be the most effective solution to solve this dangerous disease. Its goal is:
- eliminate the causes of disease;
- stop the inflammatory process in the prostate;
- to relieve pain and cramps.
There are several groups of drugs used in drug therapy of the disease.
Drug groups
Drug therapy for prostate inflammation is performed using different groups of drugs. However, only a doctor decides how to treat prostatitis in men with drugs in any case. He chooses the necessary means depending on the form of the disease, as well as the nature of its course.
In most cases, treatment is carried out with:
- antibiotics;
- nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs;
- antispasmodics;
- painkillers;
- hormonal agents;
- alpha blockers;
- immunomodulators;
- muscle relaxants.
Drugs used in the treatment of prostatitis are used in various combinations, both in the acute form of the disease and in the chronic stage.
Antibiotics and NSAIDs
Antibiotics are prescribed to destroy the pathogenic bacteria that caused the disease and alleviate the acute or chronic inflammatory process. The release form of these drugs can be tablets, capsules, injections, rectal suppositories.
In men, the treatment of acute prostatitis can be carried out with the following antibacterial drugs from the group of fluoroquinolones that have a broad spectrum of action.
For the treatment of chronic prostatitis it is preferable to use antibiotics from the group of tetracyclines or macrolides.
The average course of antibiotic use for prostate inflammation is 2-3 weeks.
In case of ineffective antibiotic therapy or in case of non-bacterial nature of the disease, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are prescribed.
NSAIDs actively suppress inflammation, alleviate swelling well and have pronounced analgesic properties. Due to the adverse effect of these drugs on the patient's digestive system, short-term courses of their use at weekly intervals are recommended.
Hormones
With prostatitis in men, there is a decrease in erectile function of the penis. In order to restore it and normalize the endocrine system, hormone therapy is prescribed. It is also necessary to remove the inflammatory process in the affected organ.
Alpha blockers
Prostatitis often causes urinary problems. Muscle relaxation is necessary to facilitate the flow of urine. For this purpose, the doctor prescribes the intake of alpha-blockers.
The drugs act on the sympathetic nervous system, which is necessary to control the tone of the smooth muscles of the bladder and urethra. After taking the drugs of this group, the muscles relax, the cramps are removed, and the urine normalizes. Also, means are needed to remove inflammation and pain during urination.
Therapy of prostatitis with drugs of this group is carried out for a long time. They are usually appointed for at least six months.
Immunomodulators
After taking antibiotics for prostatitis, the body is in a weakened state. Along with harmful microorganisms, beneficial microflora is also killed. During this period, man is most susceptible to infection. In order to reduce the probability of dangerous consequences, complications, viral and bacterial diseases, the necessary vitamins, elements and minerals are prescribed.
Immunomodulator intake is important for strengthening the body. They help increase not only local immunity, but also the protection of the body as a whole.
Muscle relaxants
To reduce muscle tone, muscle relaxants are prescribed. They normalize blood flow so that prostate juice is released completely. Also, funds are able to eliminate the pain syndrome.
Pain relievers
When prostatitis occurs, many men experience a strong pain syndrome, pain at the time of urination. All medications used to treat pain affect the source of the pain to one degree or another. However, they are not always able to fully cope with the unpleasant sensations.
With severe pain syndrome, pain relievers are indicated.
The drugs are available in the form of tablets and solutions for injection. Doctors note that it is better to act on the source of pain in liquid forms. Enemas are made on their basis. The composition quickly reaches the source of pain, which helps to cope with the pain syndrome in a short period of time.
Sedatives
The characteristic of prostatitis is not only the appearance of physiological changes. In diseases, a man suffers from a decrease in potency, problems with erectile function. The penis is not always ready for intimacy.
Men are starting to worry a lot about this. Finally, violations of the sexual sphere for many patients are one of the most serious manifestations of the disease. Therefore the psyche of the patient suffers.
Sedatives are needed to restore the nervous system. They are also necessary if a man in everyday life often has to be nervous and experience stressful situations. Such phenomena negatively affect the already weakened organism.
If severe mental disorders are noticed, sedatives are needed.
It is worth remembering that sedatives are taken for a short time. Finally, the body can get used to the constant intake of active ingredients. If you exceed the dosage, various complications can occur.
Other funds
There are other medications that are prescribed for prostatitis. But they are not considered essential drugs during treatment.
Anticholinergic drugs are necessary to normalize the process of urination, blood circulation and increase potency.
With the help of antihistamines, it is possible to reduce the swelling of the prostate tissue. But it is worth remembering that such means are powerful. Therefore, it is prescribed exclusively by a doctor.
All medications require a specific dosing regimen. It must be issued by a urologist when prescribing treatment stages.
Rectal suppositories
Treatment of prostatitis is carried out with the obligatory use of rectal suppositories. Suppositories are more acceptable dosage forms because they act directly on the source of inflammation. In that case, the pain and negative processes are quickly removed.
Dissolving in the rectum, the components are immediately delivered to the diseased organ through the bloodstream. That is, the effect occurs after 15-20 minutes. This is especially true when the pain of inflammation becomes unbearable.
Unlike suppositories, the same tablets or capsules first enter the stomach and then, when dissolved, pass through the liver, while losing some useful substances and properties.
In addition, suppositories are considered safer forms of medication because they do not affect kidney and liver function.
The variety of rectal suppositories is quite large. They contain:
- antispasmodics;
- analgesics;
- antibiotics;
- beekeeping products;
- components of the bovine prostate gland.
Suppositories are almost always based on coconut oil. Thanks to it, fast absorption of medicinal components is ensured. Many capsules contain vitamins and minerals that help boost immunity.
Some men can only use suppositories, tablets are forbidden due to diseases of the gastrointestinal tract (GIT).
Candles are introduced only after the cleansing enema has been performed. At least 2-4 cm must be inserted. After the introduction you have to lie in bed for about half an hour. The procedure can be performed at home.
There are many medications and techniques to treat prostatitis. But they will only be effective in combination.
Of course, medicated drugs have an effect, but recovery will come much faster if you add physiotherapy and folk recipes.
